Birmingham office space is set to benefit from more civil service relocations out of London, according to the head of relocation at the Office of Government Commerce.
Stuart Ladds, head of relocation and regional strategy, said that more relocations were in the pipeline and Birmingham could be the ideal candidate.
According to the Birmingham Post, Ladds said:
"We are looking forward to the redevelopment of New Street station and Birmingham will continue to be an area of interest and occupation over the next ten years."
He explained that new BREEAM buildings are crucial to the decision, as this type of space complies with more recent government guidelines, such as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
He adds: "New legislation brings additional challenges when applied to an estate which is diverse, complex and constrained by age, configuration and historical significance. That's why we need to look at more sustainable options."
