Small business confidence returns

A new survey by Tenon has seen a sharp increase in the number of entrepreneurs and small businesses who feel confident about their opportunities.

Results were compared with a similar survey conducted last quarter. Nationally, almost one third of small firms surveyed this time said they expected demand to increase over the next quarter. The survey also reported a drop in the number of respondents who expect demand to fall.

According to the Birmingham Post, a reduced number of those surveyed also intend to decrease staffing number over the next three months.

Alistair Wesson, Regional Managing Director of Tenon in the Midlands, said:

"A wave of cautious optimism is spreading through the entrepreneurial community. Small businesses have worked hard to manage their costs in this difficult climate and have shown remarkable resilience in the face of such challenges, adapting their business models by increasing their capital investments, research and development, and the use of outsourcing services."

He adds: "Cost control and tight financial planning remain important in ensuring survival."
