The UK's north-west region - Stockport in particular - has achieved recognition as a thriving location thanks to continuing investment. A government-run investment website, UK Invest, has reported that around 700 jobs have been created in Stockport this year, and many companies have also chosen to expand or set up in the town.

Among the companies recently choosing Stockport as their office location are global organisations MAN Diesel and sports brand Umbro.

Norman Hudson, Service Director for Regeneration and Leisure at Stockport Council, said: "Despite what was a difficult year for businesses we are delighted with these end of year figures that show that Stockport continues to offer excellent advantages as a business location."
