BP alternative energy group quits London office

Petroleum company BP is planning to shut the London office of its alternative energy business. The plans angered environmental groups, who claimed BP's "Beyond Petroleum" initiative was being ignored. However BP insists that it is still committed to more sustainable energy solutions.

BP Alternative Energy operates a range of businesses, including wind farms, solar power, biofuels, hydrogen energy and carbon-capture, and storage projects. Staff from the central London office are due to move back to BP's corporate head office in St James’s Square across the Thames.
