What About the Business Community?

The County is still dominated by manufacturing and logistics based businesses, with 19.2% of the population being employed in this field, largely in unskilled positions, and located on well established Industrial Estates on the outskirts of Birmingham, Coventry, Smethwick and Nuneaton.

Warwickshire enjoys an above average percentage of the population being qualified to degree level, with the South of the County being dominated by those in professional management positions.

With the high level of universities and Science Parks in the Birmingham and Warwick areas promoting new business start ups and the advent of high technology companies, the level of those who are self employed in the county is above the national average at 8.7%.

Where is it?

Warwickshire is located in the Midlands. It is a landlocked County and borders the Counties of Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. Warwickshire traditionally encompasses Coventry, Stratford Upon Avon, Warwick and Birmingham. However Birmingham is now more commonly classed as being part of the West Midlands.

What are the Transport Links like?

Being in such a central location, Warwickshire is in a superb position for access to main Transport links. The M40, M6, M42, M1 and M45 are all accessible, meaning it is easy to travel throughout the UK. Birmingham Airport provides easy International travel, whilst all major towns have Train Stations and good bus routes.

Who Lives There?

The population of Warwickshire is 505 806. Again, the central location and good transport links makes Warwickshire popular with commuters who enjoy access to the UK's motorway network. Birmingham and its surroundings - Edgbaston, Erdington and Solihull - provide many high profile job opportunities, and the presence of highly commended universities in Warwick, Birmingham and Coventry means the County is also popular with students and has a high young population in certain areas, with Warwick being home to over 12 000 students.

Warwickshire History

Warwickshire as a County was first identified in the 11th Century. During the Middle Ages Coventry became popular and well known for its part in the Textile Trade, making the City a prosperous and attractive area for settlers. Warwickshire still maintains its old English charm, with many historic buildings and Parks, especially around Stratford Upon Avon.
