It’s official - the days of the traditional Great British packed lunch are over.

A recent study carried out by the UK’s largest online provider of commercial office space, officebroker.com has revealed that 46% of office workers would rather tuck into sushi then a sandwich for lunch.

The national survey compiled using data from over 500 U.K. business employees has revealed a number of lunchtime surprises. Sushi was a clear favourite whilst 25% also said their dream lunch would be Thai.

50% of office workers admitted to taking a packed lunch into work three or more times a week, and of those, the most popular sandwich filling was Ham, followed by Tuna with Egg coming in a close third.

Despite the nation’s obsession with healthy eating the survey found that a surprising 40% of Brits still prefer traditional white bread to healthier options such as brown, multigrain and wholemeal.

However of those that take a packed lunch to work, a whopping 35% admitted to secretly eating theirs well before midday.

Chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks were amongst the most popular lunchtime snacks, according to officebroker.com.

20% admitted to skipping lunch entirely in favour of a larger evening meal, whilst a staggering 90% said they mostly ate lunch at their desk.

Research by the company, which works with more than 90% of the UK’s serviced office space providers, found that despite the popularity of sugary snacks, healthy lunchtime options including smoothies, low fat yoghurts and fruit were consumed three or more times a week by 95% of office workers.

Chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks were amongst the most popular lunchtime snacks.

officebroker.com is the UK’s largest online broker of commercial office space to businesses looking for serviced or conventional office space anywhere in the world.

Managing Director of officebroker.com, Jim Venables said: “It seems the nation’s tastes are becoming more discerning. Although sandwiches are a popular choice they are often looking for alternative and often exotic lunch time options.”

The prize offered to companies who participated in the survey was a weeks supply of Innocent Smoothies! The five lucky winners are: Sue Evans at Squash Wales Ltd, David Nicholls at Town Cars, Paul Evans at tacklemydebt.co.uk, Jill Broom at moneyQuest and Gillian Stewart at Mammoet UK Ltd. Many congratulations to all winners, we hope you enjoy your smoothies. Thank you also to everyone who participated in the survey.
