What are the Transport Links like?
Having such a central location, Leicestershire has excellent motorway links though the M1 and M69 which run through the West of the County, as well as a number of A roads including the A6, A47 and A607. This provides fast travel to the surrounding areas including Birmingham, Nuneaton, Nottingham and Northampton.
Who Lives There?
Leicestershire has a population of 609 000, with the largest concentration being in Leicester, followed by Loughborough. The majority of the population are in the 18-35 age group, mainly due to Leicester's Universities and a high student population. The population has risen by 12% in the last 20 years, and is very multi cultural, especially in and around Leicester.
The County also attracts commuters because of its central location and close to proximity to Birmingham and Nottingham.
History
The county of Leicestershire dates back as far as 1087. The county has not changed much in size since then and has retained its borders well. A largely agricultural background in industry, the County is still very "green" with large expanses of land and fields dominating the landscape.
