Holborn Office Space Location Data:
The Holborn area is a quiet oasis in a central location between the West End and the City districts of the Capital. Holborn took its name from a tributary of the now underground River Fleet called “Holebourne” which was a major goods route from the Thames into the heart of London.
Holborn was home to the capital’s major legal centres, known at the time as “Inns of Court”, and they symbolised the law as a mediator in the power-struggle between Westminster and the City. The four “Inns” which survive (Gray’s Inn, Lincoln’s Inn, Inner Temple and Middle Temple) and their many courtyards and passageways helped create the peaceful atmosphere that Holborn still offers.
Holborn is also home to Temple Bar, a monument set in the middle of the road where the Strand meets Fleet Street which symbolises the official boundary between the City and Westminster. The monument features a statue of a griffin – the symbol of the City - and the Queen is not allowed to pass this point without the permission of the Lord Mayor of London!
