High demand for office space

STRONG demand for serviced officespace in Cambridge put the city in the top 20 commercial property hotspots in a new survey.

Research by officebroker.com which works with 97% of the UK's serviced office space providers and landlords, provided a snapshot of the country's commercial property market in 2007.

The areas that received the highest number of enquiries included parts of Greater London, followed by Birmingham and then Manchester.

Cambridge made it to 11th position in the top 20 compiled by officebroker.com, co-owned by entrepreneurs Jim Venables and Andy Haywood.

Mr Venables, managing director, said: "Cambridge continues to thrive as a business

destination, helped by its strong knowledge-based economy, proximity to London and situation in the heart of the East Anglian countryside."We saw 2007 revenues in Cambridge increase by 88% on 2006 figures."

John Spencer, ceo of MWB Business Exchange in Cambridge, said: The Cambridge market has been booming, due in part to the influx of wealth management companies that have recognised the pool of entrepreneurs based hi the area. On top of this, IT companies, and in particular, software companies, have been expanding rapidly"
