BIRMINGHAM has taken pride of place as the UK's top commercial property hotspot, with office deals up 54 per cent in just 12 months.

The demand for serviced office space in the Midlands' capital-was so great in 2007 that the city came out on top in a league table of regional hotspots compiled by officebroker.com.

While central London and towns along the M4 corridor feature heavily in officebroker.com’s top ten, Birmingham is stealing a march on rival towns and cities in the UK for demand for serviced office space from the business community.

Jim Venables, managing director of officebroker.com, the UK's leading online office brokering business, said-. "Birmingham continues to thrive, both as a business environment but also as a great city to live in. Demand for office space remains extremely strong. Indeed, in 2007 we saw a 41 per cent increase in the number of inquiries for serviced office space in the city compared to the previous year.

"Outside of London, we brokered more deals for businesses seeking space in Birmingham than anywhere else in the UK."

Mr Venables said the range of office space available was "vast".

"From warehouse space to out of town business parks, contemporary city centre developments to period-style office accommodation, this is a city that offers the business community an incredible amount of choice in terms of available space."

Other popular towns and cities which saw demand increase significantly in 2007 include Liverpool, where saw revenue increase by 46 per cent from 2006 to 2007.

Capital of Culture status had boosted the North-West city's reputation, said the survey
